Avoid Pick Pockets
One of the safety issues that can affect travelers are pick pockets. While violent crime at a lot of destinations is relatively low, pick pockets are always a crime that you should be well aware of. Here are some tips on avoiding pick pockets.
One of the major places that pick pockets congregate around are popular tourist destinations and attractions. Pick pockets generally like to congregate within big crowds of tourists. Tourists are the best types of marks because they are usually preoccupied with the attraction, they have lots of money on them and they don’t normally know there way around a specific area, so pick pockets can easily get away.
Some of the easiest ways to avoid getting pick pocketed has a lot to do with common sense. For instance, keep your wallets or large amounts of money in your front pocket. Front pockets are much harder to steal from than a back pocket, plus you will usually be able to see someone in front of you, rather than a pickpocket that bumps into your back area.
Another great tip is to put a rubber band around your money or wallet. When a person tries to steal money out of your pocket, the rubber band will get caught on the inside of your pocket; you will feel the wallet or money being removed.
If you want to keep your wallet, money and documents secure, purchase a money belt. Money belts are very comfortable and practical. They hold money, documents and jewelry safely under your pants and are very hard to steal.
If you are in a dense mob of people either at an attraction, sporting event, etc, another great tips is to keep your money in your pocket and put your hands in your pocket as well. This will let pick pockets know that you are alert and not a good mark.
By following the above tips, you can greatly reduce the risk of being a victim of pickpockets.
