Beware of Your Surroundings

One of the most important ways to remain safe while traveling is to remain alert and aware of your surroundings. Most people don't realize that if they just plan their day and stay alert, they can avoid many safety issues. Here are some tips.

If you are planning on traveling, make sure that you travel the right way. Be alert of your surrounding, know where you are at all times and keep strict control of your belongings. Most travelers fall into trouble when they have their head in the clouds and not thinking about their environment. Whether it is in a large crowd of people looking at an exhibition or attraction or relaxing at a pub, many people don't put any effort into securing their belongings, as well as their own security.

Make sure you purchase a travel guide book. Guide books are a great way to find information about the destination you are visiting. Usually the guide book will have great information on what areas should be avoided and tips on avoiding common traveler pitfalls.

If you decide to visit an attraction where you will be with lots of people in close proximity, make sure you keep your eyes on your valuables and do not keep your wallet in your back pocket. Pickpockets find large group of people, especially tourists who they can rob easily. One of the best strategies for being within a large group of people is to put your wallet in your front pocket and then put your hands in your pocket. No pickpocket will try to rob you in this position.

If you just got off of the airplane and have lots of luggage, wait to you get home to relax, make sure that you are paying attention to all of your belongings and go into a clear area where you can both read a map or talk on the phone with your luggage. Many people will focus on a map or phone call while thieves try to steal your luggage. Keep alert and close to your belongings at all times.
